Ontario Launching Public Consultations on Prevention Programs

The Ministry of Labour is launching a public consultation on prevention programs to support strong workplace health and safety culture and performance.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) administers voluntary prevention programs. The ministry — which has overall responsibility for prevention — assembled a Prevention Program Review Group to examine current WSIB programs and other similar programs. The government will incorporate their advice in the design and administration of prevention programs going forward.

The ministry is now reaching out to employers participating in, or interested in these programs as well as labour groups, workers and the public to solicit their views on whether these existing prevention programs are fine as they are, need to be modified, or new programs need to be developed.

The goal of the consultation is to ensure that prevention programs:

  • Support workplaces in reaching compliance.
  • Encourage workplaces to develop strong health and safety culture and performance.
  • Generate measurable outcomes.

Members of the public are invited to visit the Ministry of Labour’s Prevention Program Review consultation page for more information.

Strengthening workplace health and safety culture and performance supports the government's economic plan. The plan is building Ontario up by investing in talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic environment where business thrives, and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.

“I look forward to reviewing the results of these consultations. Once complete, the ministry and its system partners will work together on the design and administration of prevention programs in the health and safety system. This partnership will make our system stronger”
— George Gritziotis, Chief Prevention Officer
