Bargaining Overview

In August, 15 settlements[1] were ratified covering approximately 27,049 employees. The average annual base wage increase (AAI) was 1.9% (1.9% public sector; 2.0% private sector).

The highest AAI reported was 2.1% for settlements pertaining to public administration. The agreement for the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) and the Institute of Communications Agencies (ICA) had the largest number of employees (approximately 11,270 employees) and received an AAI of 2.0%.

Consumer Price Index in Ontario for August was 1.5% and averaging 1.7% for the year.

Collective Bargaining Outlook[2]

Major agreements scheduled to expire include municipalities, police services boards, hospitals, long-term care homes, universities, developmental services, College Employer Council (Academic Staff), Metro Ontario Inc., Bell Canada, and Essar Steel Algoma Inc.
