Figure 2 shows the general arrangement of a typical steel ladder attached to the side of a building that requires a safety cage. The figure shows a side view of the ladder attached to the building. The top of the building and ground level are shown. The height from the ground level of the roof or floor to the bottom of the safety cage shall not exceed 2.2 metres. The distance from the ground level of the roof or floor to the top of the highest rung shall be greater than 5 metres but shall not exceed 9 metres. The side rails shall extend a minimum of 900 millimetres above the landing. Attachment and anchor bolts should have a minimum diameter of 12 millimetres. Maximum spacing of attachment points should be 3 metres.
