[Workers engaging in handshake to show promotion]

I was just made a supervisor at my job.

I'm really happy about it because the extra money will come in handy.

But it also means that I have a lot of new responsibilities  including the legal responsibility for the health and safety of others.

[Workers having discussions and taking safety precautions]

Its a natural thing for a new supervisor to wonder if he or she is up to the challenge.

In fact, asking that question will help me figure out what additional information or instruction I might need to do the job confidently.

When I was first promoted to supervisor, I wasn't sure if I was up to the challenge.

I needed guidance and information about my new role.

I wanted to be sure that I could do the best that I could.

Making sure that we have a safe and healthy workplace is my main task.

Workers look to me to ensure their safety.

[Workers placing ‘wet floor’ sign]

As a supervisor, Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act expects me to ensure that the work environment is safe for everyone.

My employer expects the same.
