You are not entitled to:

  • daily or weekly limits on hours of work
  • daily rest periods
  • time off between shifts
  • weekly/bi-weekly rest periods
  • eating periods
  • overtime pay
  • sick leave, family responsibility leave or bereavement leave, if taking the leave would be professional misconduct or abandoning your duty
  • public holidays or public holiday pay
  • vacation with pay

Election Officials

Special rules or exemptions

While a general election or by-election is going on, you are not entitled to:

  • daily or weekly limits on hours of work
  • daily rest periods
  • weekly/bi-weekly rest periods
  • time off between shifts

Engineers and engineering students

This applies to you if you are an engineer or an engineering student (EIT “Engineering Intern Training” or equivalent).

Managers and supervisors

This applies if you only perform managerial or supervisory work, or if you only perform non-managerial or non-supervisory work on an irregular or exceptional basis.

Municipal employees

This applies to you if you work for a municipality or your employer participates in the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System pension plan.

Your employer may make pension plan-related deductions from your wages for fees.

Ontario government and government agency employees

This applies to employees employed by:

  • the Ontario government
  • Ontario government agencies or authorities, boards, commissions or corporations all of whose members are appointed by the Ontario government
