Legal Services Branch--An award-winning team!

Sherry Cohen and Iram Khan, solicitors with MOL’s Legal Services Branch (LSB ), and Deanna Exner, a litigation lawyer with LSB, were part of the Legislative Drafting Team that won a GEM (“Going the Extra Mile”) Award in 2007 from the Ministry of Labour in the category of “Partnership”. The award was given for a highly effective, multi-Ministry partnership and was a testament to the dedication and collaborative approach that resulted in the passage of the Regulatory Modernization Act, 2007.

Trevor Rands, an LSB solicitor, was part of the Ontario-Quebec 2006 Construction Labour Mobility Agreement Team, which also won a GEM Award in 2007 in the “Partnership” category. The team resolved sensitive issues and collaborated on innovative solutions leading to the resolution of a difficult inter-provincial problem.

Line Forestier and Grainne McGrath, litigation lawyers with LSB, were part of the Investigative Skills Training Program Development Team, which was given a prestigious MAG Excelsior Award in 2006 in the category of "Quality Customer Service" for developing, coordinating and delivering an innovative training program for MOL’s health and safety inspectors.

Iram Khan, Jane Mallen (a former LSB solicitor) and David Halporn (now an LSB solicitor) were also the proud recipients of a MAG Excelsior Award in 2007 in the category of “Teamwork” for their high-quality work on the Regulatory Modernization Act, 2007 project, a multi-Ministry initiative.

Debbie Middlebrook, now an LSB solicitor, also received a coveted MAG Excelsior award in 2006 for her valuable contributions to the team that worked on the Access to Justice Act, 2006. Debbie’s contributions related to the reforms to the Justices of the Peace system contained in the Act.

Line and Deanna were proud to co-lead a team that won a Bronze Award from the 2005 Public Sector Quality Fair and also an MAG Excelsior Award in the category of "Innovation" for ESA Computer Training Modules.

In 2004, LSB’s Internet site received recognition and a bronze medal from the Public Sector Quality Fair.
