Poor air quality in underground mines can lead to occupational illness and death.

WORKERS:

  1. Know where to find ventilation information in the workplace
  2. Know how much ventilation is needed for equipment
  3. Follow procedures for the operation of equipment
  4. Report ventilation hazards to supervisor/employer
  5. Know your right to refuse unsafe work

EMPLOYERS:

  1. Train workers to identify hazards and locate ventilation information
  2. Provide adequate ventilation
  3. Ensure ventilation systems are well maintained
  4. Ensure toxic substances are controlled
  5. Conduct regular testing of air quality

To report incidents, critical injuries or fatalities, call the Ministry of Labour at 1-877-202-0008. In an emergency, always call 911 immediately.
