Tower Crane Safety

Tower Crane accidents can cause serious injuries or even death.

Workers / Crane Operators:

  1. Notify supervisor if crane malfunctions or is not in good condition.
  2. Operators inspect and complete crane log book every day.
  3. Avoid lifting load over any workers.
  4. Refuse unsafe work.
  5. Comply with duties under Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations.

Supervisors / Employers / Crane Owners:

  1. Ensure a record is kept of ALL inspections, testing, repairs, modifications and maintenance of crane, including by previous owner.
  2. Ensure crane inspections and maintenance is recorded in log book.
  3. Ensure crane operated by qualified operator.
  4. STOP WORK immediately if crane malfunctions until repaired by qualified person.
  5. Conduct regular crane load tests using a “test block”.
  6. Comply with duties under Occupational Health and Safety and applicable regulations.

To report incidents, critical injuries or fatalities, call the Ministry of Labour at 1-877-202-0008. In an emergency, always call 911 immediately.
