Safe At Work Ontario

When moving clients, healthcare workers are at risk of MSDs (such as injuries to muscles, tendons, nerves, spinal discs, etc.)

Workers:

  1. Know about your rights and responsibilities when handling clients
  2. Follow safe work practices for client handling
  3. Use all required client handling equipment
  4. Report MSD hazards and symptoms to your supervisor early
  5. Report missing or defective equipment and other hazards to your supervisor/employer

Employers/Supervisors:

  1. Protect workers from client handling hazards
  2. Identify client handling hazards and implement corrective measures
  3. Train workers on how to safely handle clients
  4. Provide adequate supervision and instruction to workers who handle clients
  5. Ensure client handling equipment is properly used, maintained and stored

To report incidents, critical injuries or fatalities, call the Ministry of Labour at 1-877-202-0008. In an emergency, always call 911 immediately.
