Access Equipment Safety

Safe At Work Ontario

Access equipment accidents can cause serious injury or even death.

Employers / Supervisors:

  1. Provide access equipment most suitable for the job
  2. Provide appropriate training to workers
  3. Ensure workers know emergency procedures
  4. Provide training for fall protection
  5. Ensure access equipment is properly maintained
  6. Ensure all maintenance equipment records are available for inspection

Workers:

  1. Use access equipment in a manner that does not endanger any worker
  2. Use access equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions
  3. Get adequate training on the use, maintenance and storage of access equipment
  4. Know your project’s emergency procedures
  5. Wear prescribed fall protection
  6. Report hazards to supervisor/employer and refuse unsafe work

To report incidents, critical injuries or fatalities, call the Ministry of Labour at 1-877-202-0008. In an emergency, always call 911 immediately.
