Bulletin: Temporary Help Agencies

On November 6, 2009 the Employment Standards Amendment Act (Temporary Help Agencies), 2009 came into force. This changes the way temporary help agencies and assignment employees work together. Temporary help agencies will have new responsibilities. Temporary help assignment employees have new rights.

  Between June and November 2009 Ministry of Labour staff participated in five public / stakeholder events across the province to outline changes affecting the temporary help industry, which came into force on November 6, 2009. In all, close to 300 attendees participated in the events, which were organized by stakeholders, MPPs and the Ministry.

  At the MOL-organized events, consisting of a webinar (a web-based audio-visual seminar) on October 26 and in-person information session on October 27, participants were encouraged to pose questions during the meetings (in the case of the face-to-face), or submit questions online for follow-up feedback (in the case of the webinar). The MOL sessions were available to all interested temporary help stakeholder groups, and were well attended by representatives of temporary help agencies, worker advocates and other stakeholders.
