In 2006, the Ministry of Labour improved the claims filing process by allowing online submissions, resulting in a large increase in the volume of Employment Standards claims. In addition, recent economic challenges have resulted in more vulnerable employees relying on the Employment Standards program to ensure they are being treated fairly in the workplace.

Over the next two years, the Task Force will operate with the Employment Standards program to:

• address outstanding claims,
• reduce wait times for future claims investigation, and
• better help employers to comply with their obligations through education and awareness.
