The Ministry of Labour has responded to employers’ requests for tools to help them understand and comply with the Employment Standards Act, 2000. A new workbook for business owners and managers is now available.
The Ministry of Labour launched a two-month workplace safety blitz on Sept. 15, 2010, that focuses on musculoskeletal disorder hazards in several sectors. A new printable MSD poster and fact sheet are now available for download in English and French. Remember, the ministry has an interactive Pains and Strains tool to help you learn more about preventing these disorders.
Last year, the Ministry of Labour visited some 800 vehicle body repair workplaces in its central region to search for safety hazards and employment standards violations. Ministry inspectors are returning to the workplaces where orders were issued. Between September 2010 and March 2011, inspectors will visit more than 500 workplaces to determine whether workplace parties are complying with orders and are eliminating certain hazards.
The Ministry of Labour has been honoured with the prestigious Canada Awards for Excellence silver award for its outstanding internal healthy workplace strategy. Health and safety at workplaces across Ontario is a top priority for the ministry, which always strives to lead by example.
